Belgorod State Technological University
Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G Shukhov (BSTU) is one of higher educational establishments in Russia, which has been training students for 50 years in the field of construction industry. It was founded as a basic institution of building materials. According to the result of rating of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the University holds the first position among architectural institutions of Russia. According to the results of monitoring of Russian higher educational establishments, conducted by «Business Russia», Belgorod State Technological University named after V. G. Shoukhov is ranked as the leader of business rating, and is included into a number of high-ranking institutions in the country in terms of the quality of education and demand for its graduates.
Brief history of the University:
In 1876, the University was established by the order of the Ministry of Public Education.
In 1919, Belgorod Teacher’s Training Institute was reorganized into Belgorod Pedagogical Institute and in 1920, it was reorganized into Belgorod Institute of Public Education.
In 1922, Belgorod Institute of Public Education was reorganized into Belgorod Practical Institute of Public Education. In a year, it was reordered into the Pedagogical Secondary School.
In 1939, it became the Teacher’s Training Institute again.
In 1954, the Teacher’s Training Institute was reorganized into the Pedagogical Institute.
In 1967, Belgorod State Pedagogical Institute was named after М.S. Olminsky.
In 1994, Belgorod State Pedagogical Institute named after М.S. Olminsky was renamed as Belgorod State Pedagogical University named after М.S. Olminsky.
In 2009, the University became the base institution of The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Network University, in the priority areas of Nanotechnology, Regional Studies and Ecology.
In 2010, Belgorod State Technological University was appointed by the Federal Government of the Russian Federation as one of only a handful of National Research Universities. This designation has brought additional resources to the University and has encouraged the development of the University’s campus.
In 2012, the University joined the rank of the 30 best national universities
In 2012 and 2014, Belgorod State Technological University won in the competitions of development programs for students’ associations.
The University consists of 11 institutes: construction materials science, economics and management, technological equipment and complexes, architecture and construction, information technology and control systems; automobile and road construction, environmental engineering, computerization of machine building technology, energy, distance learning and correspondence studies. Academic staff of the University consists of highly qualified professionals. There are 150 Doctors and Professors, including 47 Academicians and Corresponding Members of the State and Social Academies, over 400 candidates of science (PhD) and assistant professors, more than 30 laureates of honorary titles, 5 honored inventors.
Students are offered to use huge scientific library. It consists of more than 1.5 million volumes. There are different kinds of books so that students can improve their knowledge in various fields. There is also electronic library; it is very useful for distance learning.
Great attention is paid to sports life of the students: there are more than 30 sections on various kinds of sports. Sports competitions of different levels and kinds are conducted at the University. The University stadium is of a very large size. Students are offered: tennis courts, a playground with two sites for handball and indoor soccer. A new swimming pool is under construction. Currently, it is the only university of this profile in whole Europe, which provides full professional training of specialist for this branch.
The University has trained over 65 thousand highly qualified specialists for building and construction industry, including students from more than 32 foreign countries. Foreign Students take an active part in social, cultural and sports life of the University. All the students can obtain undergraduate and postgraduate education at this University.
Belgorod State Technological University actively collaborates with institutions of the USA, Great Britain, Germany, China, Egypt, Serbia, Poland, Israel and others. The University obtained international accreditation from the British Institute of civil engineers for a number of specialties.
